It’s almost unbearable. Like in a bad movie, you watch what it means when the wrong man gains unchecked power. Simplistic, backward-looking policies recklessly shatter one certainty after another. What unsettles me most personally is the abrupt, almost seamless transition into a mafia-like world order driven by violence. Everything happened so quickly. Sometimes I have to rub my eyes to remind myself that there is still a lot of good in the world. What gave me hope was the memorable speech by Mark Carney, the Prime Minister of Canada, at the World Economic Forum in Davos.

I am watching the current developments in Ukraine and on the international stage with great concern. What was originally planned as a meeting to sign a raw materials agreement between Zelensky and Trump escalated in front of live cameras into a confrontation, during which Trump openly questioned U.S. support for Ukraine in front of the assembled world press. Additionally, Elon Musk’s sweeping “Chainsaw Blessing” cuts to USAID funding have significantly hindered access to aid for Ukraine, which is the largest recipient of assistance, totaling over $37 billion.

The situation in Kyiv is desperate. In recent days, Russian attacks have caused severe damage. Last Monday, the Okhmatdyt Children’s Hospital, the largest of its kind in Ukraine, was hit. At least 30 people died, including four children. Another 117 people, including children, were injured. Residential buildings in cities such as Kryvyi Rih and Pokrovsk were also hit. A major power supplier near Kyiv was heavily damaged as well, further exacerbating the city’s energy supply issues.

Over 60 individuals from the fields of photography, performing arts, literature, music, and theater were reached out to and interviewed, which has provided us with valuable insights and contacts within the scene. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved. This survey, I can say this much in advance, produced unexpected results. But first of all, I would like to apologize for the delay. It is still not easy to work effectively in a war-torn country. It is a tough process and I thank you for your patience and commitment.

During the winter, supply difficulties wreaked havoc; focused work in Kyiv was out of the question. Our helpers, projects, and employees were consumed with their personal lives and survival. At the beginning of the year, Andrii left us, and with him, a crucial employee and contact person within the scene; traveling to Ukraine personally remained out of the question.
