“Nika Turbina” is a production by Igor Fedirko about the Soviet poet of the same name, who tragically died when she was only 27. Igor’s poetic shadow and puppet show tells of Nika’s inner world through intelligent and wonderful images. He focuses the performance entirely on her by representing all other roles through hands that pull at her, manipulate her, or comfort her. One comes very close to the person of Nika Turbina, because only she herself leads the viewer into the abysses of her soul and the dark beauty of her language. No spoken words are heard, only her own original voice recorded on tape,<\/span> <\/span><\/div>\n

making the evening almost universally understandable even without translation. In her room, there is a large window, and as the stage rotates, her private space <\/span>suddenly becomes her stage. Here she recites her poems with great gesture, becoming more and more entangled in dreams, spiders and hands, from which she desperately tries to free herself. Until, at the end, she leaps from the spinning carousel of stage and childhood room through that window into the <\/span><\/p>\n

Art Crossing Borders wants to record the performance conventionally in the best sense with a film camera. This way, she not only remains preserved for future generations but can also be introduced to a broader audience worldwide through the festival framework, telling the story of a Ukrainian poet who gained fame during the Soviet era. <\/span><\/p>\n
