UHAP – Ukrainian Artist Health Program

Free psychological support for Ukrainian artists
An initiative by the German non-profit Art Crossing Borders and Neuroflex

Am 24. Februar 2025 schreibt die WHO einen >>Artikel über die psychische Gesundheit der Ukrainer: 46 % von ihnen leiden unter psychischen Gesundheitsproblemen, darunter Angststörungen und posttraumatischem Stress

What is UHAP?

The Ukrainian Artist Health Program (UAHP) is a non-profit initiative by Art Crossing Borders that offers free psychological counseling and therapy to Ukrainian artists in collaboration with our partner >>Neuroflex.

Background story

UAHP was launched in 2025. After the invasion, many of our cultural and artistic projects came to a halt. In order to find out how we could support artists during this challenging time, we conducted a comprehensive survey across all artistic disciplines. In an open comment section, a large number of respondents independently expressed that they considered psychological support to be especially important. That same month, the WHO published an >>article stating that over 46% of the Ukrainian population suffers from mental health issues — including anxiety disorders and post-traumatic stress.

Artists face particular hardship. Beyond financial insecurity and the struggle for their artistic identity, wartime raises questions about the legitimacy and purpose of their art. Yet, it is precisely culture that, through its reflection of society and preservation of cultural heritage, plays a crucial role in a nation’s resilience and identity.

Values and Vision

The board of Art Crossing Borders is made up of artists themselves and follows the principle of providing help that is direct, high-quality, and free of bureaucracy. Confidentiality and the protection of the artists are our top priorities. We guarantee a responsible and transparent handling of data and also offer the option to access support anonymously, if desired.
